An evening for the ocean

Some of the world’s most important ecosystems depend on people who may never meet.
And yet, the ocean has a curious way of connecting them.
On 24 September 2025, Cosa launched Journeys with Depth, a new purpose-driven event series exploring conscious travel from unexpected angles. For its first edition, Cosa gave the stage to pioneers from science, hospitality, education and art to share their work and ideas with a select audience of curious travellers. The ocean was their common ground. The question: What can travel make possible?
Think less theory, more ideas already in action: a reef rebuilt. A turtle nest protected. A hotel planting its 9,000th coral frame. A children’s book inspiring the next generation and an underwater photographer bringing Raja Ampat to Zurich.
Different perspectives. One evening. Here’s what they brought to the room.
This isn’t a conversation designed to pretend that luxury travel comes without impact. It doesn’t. What makes it interesting is exploring where some of that impact can lead.

RRREEFS
What if a coral reef could be rebuilt with a 3D printer? Founded in 2020, ETH Zurich spin-off rrreefs aims to revive 1% of the world’s coastal coral reefs by 2034, with projects from Colombia and the British Virgin Islands to Ecuador and the Philippines. rrreefs took the stage to show our guests how its modular, three-dimensional structures create new habitat on degraded seabeds. Clever science, with something beautifully hands-on about it. Cosa marked the evening by contributing to the restoration of one square metre of reef, while guests could adopt a rrreefs coral brick. Selected ocean-inspired journeys with Cosa continue to support the reef’s restoration.
You travel. A reef grows.

AMANPULO & AMANYARA
Two islands, two very different ecosystems and two resorts with a shared commitment to protect what surrounds them. Amanpulo in the Philippines protects endangered sea turtles and monitors their nests, while guided snorkelling and diving bring guests closer to the conservation work happening beneath the surface. At Amanyara in the Caribbean, efforts range from protecting sea turtles and restoring coral reefs to preserving native Caribbean flora. Both resorts pair marine conservation with more sustainable practices on land.
Paradise is one thing. Keeping it that way is another.

FOUR SEASONS MALDIVES
Four Seasons arrived with more than a good view. At its two Maldives Resorts, Kuda Huraa and Landaa Giraavaru, marine conservation has been part of the picture for more than two decades. Together with Reefscapers, the resorts planted their 9,000th coral frame in the Indian Ocean in 2025, quite a milestone for something that started beneath the surface. Through their Marine Discovery Centres, expert marine biologists rehabilitate damaged reefs, grow coral nurseries and invite resort guests to get involved. Suddenly, the reef isn’t just somewhere to snorkel.
It’s a living project unfolding alongside your holiday.

CHILD AID PAPUA
Conservation begins with education. As an official education partner of the UNESCO Global Geopark Raja Ampat, Child Aid Papua’s Ocean Warrior programme teaches children about plastic pollution and how they can help protect their islands. Clean-ups turn lessons into action, while its bilingual children’s book introduces young readers in Papua and Switzerland to marine conservation. During the evening, guests could buy the book and directly support Child Aid Papua’s work in Raja Ampat.
Never underestimate a child who has done their homework.
Raja Ampat, without the filter
PHOTO POOJA
Swiss underwater photographer and videographer Annik Lynn simply invited us to look closer. Her exhibition revealed the archipelago above and below the surface: wild, vivid and far more complex than the paradise pictures suggest. Guests could also take a favourite home, with each purchase helping fund further projects in Raja Ampat.
Good art makes you look twice. This one gives something back, too.
Taking the conversation further
This event marked the beginning of Journeys with depth, giving a stage to the remarkable work of our partners and leaving us with a better question: We already ask where we want to stay. Perhaps we should also ask what our stay helps to sustain.
Future editions will bring together new voices, ideas and projects, giving us more reasons to look closer.
Join the action
The evening may be over, but this is only the beginning.
