Planting Seeds of Change
Corporate Social Responsibility in Thailand
Phuket is more than just a paradise island; it’s home to communities with vastly different opportunities in life. The organisation Seeds of Change empowers underprivileged individuals by providing them with the tools and education needed for a brighter professional future. During an event on the island, we dedicated a day to supporting this NGO and its mission by helping renovate their newly acquired yet neglected campus. Everyone deserves access to education in a dignified and inspiring environment.
Seeds of Change Phuket is transforming lives through vocational training in sewing, crafts, and hospitality. By upcycling discarded fabrics into beautiful handmade products, they empower students with sustainable employment skills. Given that tourism is the island’s largest industry and faces a shortage of skilled professionals, they also focus on educating young people in hospitality, English, and computer-based booking systems, ultimately arranging internships at various hotels in Phuket.
A safe haven for growth
Securing the campus
One of the projects involved constructing a bamboo fence to protect the campus from intruders, whether animal or human. Additionally, many of the buildings lacked proper windows, leaving them exposed to the elements. The newly installed windows will not only help students focus but also regulate temperature and improve the overall learning environment.
Creating an oasis
This campus should be a place where people feel at home and at ease. By creating a vibrant community garden and painting the walls with fresh colours, we transformed the space into something new, bringing smiles to both the volunteer teaching staff and the students.
Donations for good
Old and unused laptops were donated to stock the computer room, where students learn essential digital skills. Additionally, fabric and other event materials were given to the organisation for reuse in their sewing studio. As a token of appreciation, all event participants received a unique giveaway, handcrafted during sewing classes.
