Argentina facts

In the early 20th century, Argentina was one of the world’s wealthiest countries due to exports of grain and livestock. This wealth can be seen in the elegant avenues and opulent buildings of the capital, Buenos Aires. Argentina was also an important destination for Swiss migration in the 19th and early 20th centuries. A military coup in 1976 overthrew President Isabel Peron but Argentina is now a democracy again. Aconcagua, at 6961m, is the highest mountain in the Americas.
