Brave hearts and cool kilts

A Cosa event in Scotland

A bagpipe plays on the banks of Loch Lomond in a kilt at an event in Scotland.

If you’ve never been part of a clan, you’ll probably never fully understand Scottish culture and traditions. What’s the purpose behind the tartan patterns? And why are trees being tossed around?  There’s a reason for everything, as the participants of this anniversary trip found out when they became honorary clan members. In the spirit of camaraderie, they explored new regions, competed in traditional games and celebrated together in grand festivities.

Highlights

A man shows his strength by throwing a weight at an event in Scotland.

Living traditions up close

The Highland Games originally served as a test of strength between clans, where young warriors competed fiercely.

We organised a personalised version of the games, featuring Highland dancing, archery and a (lightweight) caber toss: entertaining contests of skill and teamwork.

Which clan could triumph with strength and intellect to claim glory and honour? The day culminated in a traditional clan dinner.

A boat with a group crosses Loch Lomond during an event in Scotland.

Outdoor adventure

Beautiful Loch Lomond was the setting for an exhilarating RIB tour, paired with exciting off-road driving adventures.

Up on a hilltop, a heated army tent with high-quality catering provided the ultimate lunch experience, adding to the day’s excitement.

Lastly, a spectacular bird show, with an educational display of birds’ magnificent flying and hunting skills.

Stirling Castle is colorfully illuminated for the gala dinner on the last evening of an event in Scotland.

Stirling Castle

A majestic fortress perched on a cliff provided an unforgettable setting for the gala evening – and the iconic castle was exclusively opened for the group.

An outdoor aperitif to the evocative sounds of bagpipes, with guests then following the piper to dinner in the Great Hall.

In true Scottish tradition, participants wore national dress – kilts for the men and sashes for the women.

Dive into Scotland

A man wears a kilt with a sporran.

Clans have been part of Scotland for centuries, most notably through the different tartans and traditional family names such as MacDonald or Campbell. Although Scotland is no longer an independent country, it is a nation within the United Kingdom with its own parliament, government, flag and even Scottish pounds. And it still has its own unqiue identity, which is more than simply kilts of many colours but also bagpipes, haggis, whisky and very distinctive cows.

The Cape of Good Fun

A Cosa event in South Africa

A man dancing on stage in Cape town.

Only the best for the best. The top 140 employees of an international IT company were invited to celebrate their achievements in South Africa. Participants arrived in wonderful Cape Town from over 45 countries, to be immersed in a magnificent world organised by Cosa. In five memorable days they experienced the most stunning aspects of the city: beautiful locations, great activities and the finest food.

Highlights

A group of musicians dance and sing on stage in Cape Town.

How to be a Capetonian

In a special kind of tour, participants divided into groups to solve tasks in the city, to prove they could be real Capetonians.

From gumboot dancing to Xhosa singing via samosa cooking, these group tasks were the best way to get to know the real city.

In the evening, like real Capetonians, everyone enjoyed a lively African evening and danced to exuberant local rhythms.

A single vintage car drives along Chapman's Peak Drive in South Africa.

Cape of Good Hope

A definite must-see is the most southerly point in Africa. The coastal road winds its way to the rugged cliffs and the vast sea.

Some lucky ones drove the route in classic convertibles. Once there, everyone could enjoy the sea air by hiking or biking.

A walk to the Cape of Good Hope itself rounded off this visit, followed by a picnic in a high-end tent set up especially for us.

The meeting location was in an inspirational setting at Embassy Hill in Cape Town.

Inspirational setting

More than a meeting: that was our motto when choosing Embassy Hill for the event’s kick-off. And yes, it’s a former embassy.

An elegant building in a lovely park-like setting makes for a unique atmosphere. Creative ideas sparkle in this oasis.

This meeting location is truly perfect, not least as it’s rounded off with a relaxing pool area, ideal for a light al fresco lunch.

A big band in full swing in Cape town

Celebrating in sytle

We ended the trip on a high note, with a gala dinner in the highest building in Cape Town, a spot that’s very difficult to rent.

And no wonder, with its 360° panorama over the whole city, Lion Head, Table Mountain, the harbour and the endless sea.

Fine food and a big band in full swing gave us an evening to remember, with participants celebrating and being honoured in style.

Giving back

One great element of this trip was being able to help a local community. Langa Township is home to the Thembani Primary School, which educates around 980 local students, providing a safe environment for them to develop through school and extra-curricular activities. As this public school lacks financial resources, we donated our time in the form of work hours to build missing infrastructure for the children. It was hard work but worth every minute.

Living la Dolce Vita

A Cosa event on the Amalfi Coast

A close-up of the handmade gnocchi that guests made during the cooking class on the Amalfi Coast. Lea Waser

Welcome to the sweet life. La Dolce Vita is more than a promise, it’s a lifestyle. A group of top car sales reps and their partners enjoyed an unforgettable five days on the Amalfi Coast. The incentive trip captivated our clients, not only with the beautiful landscape but also the diverse programme. When putting this trip together, the Cosa events team focused on satisfying both the desires of car lovers and the spirit of la Dolce Vita – with success!

Highlights

Turning heads in style

A drive along the Amalfi Coast is a must. For the car enthusiasts, we spiced things up with Italian classics from the 1960s.

When was the last time you saw 25 vintage cars in a convoy of vehicles? Judging by the looks of people on the streets, not often!

Stunned faces and people waving accompanied the cars along the whole route. And of course, we waved back.

A man rolls the dough in order to make gnocchi during the cooking class.
Lea Waser

Cooking class

Another highlight, and something that can only be done in a group, is a private cooking class at one of our hand-picked agriturismos.

Everyone tied on an apron and helped prepare heavenly dishes such as parmigiana, pizza, gnocchi alla Sorrentina and tiramisu.

The experience was topped off with traditional musical entertainment that led to a night of eating, chatting and even singing.

Guests cool off in the shade of the winery at the foot of mighty Mount Vesuvius.
Lea Waser

Wine tasting

Balance is key to any programme. While the centuries-old ruins of Pompeii are worth a trip, it can get rather hot in the ancient city.

What’s the best way to follow that? Cooling down in a winery close by! In fact, right at the foot of mighty Mount Vesuvius.

A family-run winery treated the group to some local dishes paired with just the right wines, cool breeze included. Salute!

View of the promenande with boats in Capri in Italy.

Capri time

The island of Capri with its charming narrow streets and dramatic coastline is a jewel and should not be missed. So we went, of course.

We made the crossing a highlight: in a private boat. A tour round the island gave us close-up views of the rock formations.

The guides gave some local insights, and we made sure that our guests were provided with snacks and refreshments.

The dazzling Amalfi Coast

This insanely beautiful part of Italy is particularly well suited for group travel, allowing for a leisurely yet exciting time. From the tranquil villages and authentic agriturismos to the nearby islands, and the coast itself, everything is waiting to be explored. Some things are just better when enjoyed as a group! Our pro tip? You might want to pack some bigger clothes to wear after all the delicious food and wine. We speak from experience.

Life is different in Tokyo

A Cosa event in Japan

A group stands on a rooftop terrace during an incentive trip over the famous Shibuya Crossing in Toyko, Japan.

On the other side of the globe is a megacity that’s always looking to the future but still connected to its past. Cosa organised a five-day incentive trip to Tokyo, where 25 top-performing sales representatives could dive into a new world of sushi and sumo, ninjas and manga. The participants experienced the capital of Japan in all its facets, from the first dinner with geishas to a photo shoot at the busiest crossroads in the world.

Highlights

A man holds a samurai sword during a samurai sword lesson.

Samurai sword lessons

One morning was all about Japanese martial arts. The master introduced us to the ancient customs of the samurai warriors.

The ritual of dressing was performed with passion. Once we were wearing traditional robes, we stood tall, like proud warriors.

We felt the Japanese art of perfection, from the meditative preparation to the close combat. But don’t worry, no one got hurt.

The participants listen intently to the Sushi master class.

Master class

What would Japan be without a sushi workshop? We spent an evening working for our supper, by preparing our own food.

The sushi master demonstrated and made it look easy. We learnt, or rather tried to learn, the art of rolling then cutting with knives.

Our sushi rolls didn’t look so great but creating them ourselves made us proud and the main thing: they tasted amazing.

Participants enjoyed a bird's eye view of the Shibuya crossing in Tokyo, Japan.

Busy streets

This is the heartbeat of a huge city. Shibuya Crossing is the most spectacular zebra crossing in the world. And the busiest.

It’s even better seen from a bird’s-eye view. We watched the ebb and flow of people. And took the perfect photo as a souvenir.

About 2,500 people cross at a time. That’s nothing compared to the one million changing trains every day in Shibuya Station.

The digital world in Tokyo is exciting, as here at the digital art exhibition.

Digital and virtual

We had a peek into the future, starting with a mind-blowing digital art exhibition. It was like walking through a painting.

Even better was renting out a virtual reality park, where the unreal becomes real. You know it’s fake but your mind thinks it is.

Almost anything’s possible, such as walking from one skyscraper to the next or fighting aliens. Both frightening and exciting.

Daily life in Tokyo

A man stands in front of a vending machine and orders food.

Daily life in Tokyo

Tokyo was big and busy but sometimes the little things made an impression. Things like lunch. In Tokyo Station, we ventured to the ramen vending machines. We had chopsticks ready, chose our dish and drink, and had a very authentic lunch. Even catching a cab was exciting. When the taxi pulled up, the rear side door opened as if by magic. The automatic door is only on the pavement side so that you can get in and out safely.

Travel in Albania

A gathering of men in traditional dress at a table, partaking in the evening xhiro and connecting with neighbors.

Albania may be small but travelling can still be challenging. There are no official timetables for the buses (called furgons), while driving yourself means coping with people and animals alike crossing the road at will. So allow Cosa to arrange a chauffeur-driven car for you. Wherever you go, join in the evening xhiro, when locals stretch their legs and catch up with neighbours. But don’t expect to understand them easily: Albanian (shqip) has no similarity with any other language.

Albania facts

Most likely you’ll arrive at Tirana International Airport Nënë Tereza, named in honour of the nun, Mother Teresa – the only Albanian to win a Nobel Prize. Yet while Mother Teresa was one of the most famous Catholics,  Albania became the world’s first atheist state in 1976. Under dictator Enver Hoxha, churches and mosques were either destroyed or turned into dance halls. After being an Ottoman province, an independent monarchy, an Italian colony and a communist state, Albania finally became a democratic republic in 1991.

The beating art of Berlin

A Cosa event in Germany

A band plays in front of a group of people during an event in Berlin.

Culture, innovation and excitement – Berlin has it all. Top performers from a global IT company gathered from around the world to immerse themselves in one of Europe’s most vibrant and eclectic cities. Over two consecutive weekends, Cosa crafted authentic experiences, guiding the groups through the city’s trendiest neighbourhoods and opening doors to exclusive spots typically reserved for locals in the know.

Highlights

A group of people stand in front of a cool location with lots of graffiti during an event in Berlin.

One-of-a-kind location

Our art festival was held at a unique venue that couldn’t have been more fitting: an abandoned Cold War listening station, now covered in vibrant graffiti.

This space perfectly encapsulates the hip, edgy and authentic spirit of Berlin. But could participants leave their own mark?

Absolutely! Guided by professional graffiti artists, they grabbed spray cans and added their own art to the site.

Musicians with saxophone and drums entertain guests during an event in Berlin.

Going mobile

Stylish on-the-go food trucks are the in-thing in Berlin’s food scene, so we made sure they were a focal part of the event.

We transformed our location into a lively market hall full of authentic flavours and a diverse array of cuisines.

With saxophone, drums, violin and powerful vocals, we knew exactly how to energise the crowd and bring the atmosphere alive.

Group activities

Does being in such a creative location spark your own imagination? We can confidently say: Yes!

Participants unleashed their creativity by designing jute bags – a perfect souvenir for them to take home.

For those looking to blow off some steam, golf clubs were available for a round of cross golf, played from the rooftop of the venue.

Pure elegance mixed with island joy

A Cosa event in Cape Verde

Two men speak to the group at an event during the White Party on the ship at an event in Cape Verde.

This was a client’s anniversary to remember, so Cosa made it a trip to remember – a very special cruise around the Cape Verde islands in the Atlantic Ocean. The 120 guests enjoyed a luxury week-long voyage aboard the French chartered ship, where a wide range of amenities and breathtaking views of the sea never came short. On land, equal attention to detail went into putting together the tailor-made programme: six of the archipelago’s fifteen islands were on the agenda, and they couldn’t be more different.

Highlights

Ship ahoy

A brand new ship, Le Dumont d’Urville, offered excellent cuisine, sumptuous cabins and elegant comfort.

The exclusive use of the ship created a unique family atmosphere and a feeling of community on board.

Infrastructure on Cape Verde is still limited, so the charter ship offered the perfect solution for a little luxury while travelling.

A convoy of off-road vehicles drives on the dunes of Boa Vista in Cape Verde during an event.

A diverse programme

The route and land activities were tailored to the client’s wishes to get the best from the Cape Verde islands.

Each island is distinct, with contrasting landscapes and experiences. Waking up on a new island each morning is another perk of a private charter.

From thrilling dune drives on Boa Vista to volcanic hikes on Fogo or the sandy beaches of Sal, every day looked different.

A man plays the guitar during an event in Cape Verde.

Celebrating local culture

Music is the soul of Cape Verde, especially in Mindelo on the island of São Vicente, which is the cultural centre of the country.

To honour the extraordinary vibe this island has to offer, an evening was dedicated to  this ever-present cultural flair.

It was an evening filled with colour, art and music, with dancers, singers and a capoeira performance that stole the show. Everyone was swept off their feet – yes, literally.

A memorable trip

Cape Verde isn’t exactly the easiest destination, as the infrastructure is still quite modest. Does this make it a hidden gem? Absolutely! This independent island country off the Atlantic coast of West Africa is fascinating and enriching. If you want to explore its many different facets, it’s best to take a private charter. That way, you’re guranteed a smooth and luxurious journey filled with cultural immersion and wonderful views. Best of all, with a custom-made itinerary, you can enjoy waking up in a new destination each morning.

Finding peace in
the heart of London

United Kingdom

A person sitting serenely on a bench, gazing out at the surroundings in a peaceful park setting.

If you are tired of London, then you are tired of life. So goes the famous quote about the British capital. But even if you never tire of its myriad attractions and neighbourhoods, this city can be a tiring place to visit: big, hectic, with more inhabitants than Switzerland, and that’s not including the annual influx of visitors. At Cosa, we know London well enough to guide you to the quiet spots where you can escape the hubbub.

Couple unwind in Green Park, a calming refuge in the midst of London's bustle

A central oasis

Couple unwind in Green Park, a calming refuge in the midst of London's bustle

It’s said that the roving eye of King Charles II in the 17th century is what put the green into Green Park. His wife, Catherine of Braganza, became so irate at him picking posies there to give to his mistresses, that she ordered all the flowerbeds be dug up and replaced with grass. Mere minutes from the cacophonous bustle of Piccadilly Circus, Green Park is an ideal escape when the city becomes just too much. On a warm summer day here, buy an ice cream, sit back in a deckchair and switch off for a moment or two.

Chelsea Physic Garden, a historic oasis with 4,000 thriving plants

Herbs with history

Chelsea Physic Garden, a historic oasis with 4,000 thriving plants
Laura Stoner

A quiet space with a distinguished history is the Chelsea Physic Garden. In 1673 it started as a place to grow medicinal plants and has been open to the public for almost 40 years.  There are around 4,500 plants, which enjoy a micro-climate due to the protective walls, as well as a café where you can enjoy a lunch of, maybe, chicken-liver mousse and quince jelly, followed by a rhubarb panna cotta.

Escaping the city

Our favourite escape is Hampstead Heath, in the north of the city. Its 320 hectares are deliberately left wild in many places, making getting lost quite common, even desirable. If you’re feeling gung-ho, bring your towel and swimming costumes to dip into one of its ponds. Then head for its highest point to fly a kite or get a magnificent panorama over London. And depending where you exit, you’re never far from a decent pub: try the Bull and Last in Highgate or the Wells Tavern in Hampstead Village.

Rest in peace

Calming escape in in Covent Garden, where you will find tranquil interiors and peaceful courtyards

You can find stillness simply by stepping inside one of the city’s churches. They might look a tad forbidding but inside you’re in a world of tranquillity where you can sit and rest for a while. Some, like St Paul’s Church in Covent Garden, designed by Inigo Jones, have quiet courtyards as well. Here you might be feet away from the street performers and crowds jostling in the famous piazza but instead it’s an oasis of calm. It’s known as the actor’s church, with memorials dedicated to stars from Sir Charlie Chaplin to Vivien Leigh.

Christ Church Greyfriars' peaceful ruins and Postman's Park's inspiring stories of bravery.

Bombs and bravery

Christ Church Greyfriars' peaceful ruins and Postman's Park's inspiring stories of bravery.

Further east, in the shadow of St Paul’s Cathedral, are two perfect quiet places. One is the ruins of the bombed-out 13th-century Christ Church Greyfriars. Its tower and walls remain, providing an unruffled, open-air garden amid the sea of activity around it. Just up the street is Postman’s Park, a place that not even many Londoners know about. Here are plaques, erected from the 1800s onwards, to ordinary Londoners who died committing acts of great bravery. For example, on 24 January 1863 ‘Sarah Smith, pantomime artiste at Prince’s Theatre died of terrible injuries received when attempting in her inflammable dress to extinguish the flames which had enveloped her companion.’ It’s a reflective spot where the hustle and bustle of London seem very far away.

When you cross the bridge to the Isle of Skye, you’re entering an island hewn with folklore and tales, historic sites, genuine adventure activities and some of the most stunning landscapes in Europe. This island off the west coast of Scotland is a place where trends, technology and the 21st century exist on the other side of the water. And it’s that water that has forged much of the Isle’s character as on Skye, you’re never more than 8km from the sea.

The freshest fish, oysters, mussels, prawns, squat lobsters (a local delicacy) and scallops are caught and taken straight to local restaurants, or loaded onto trucks and shipped abroad.

Hikes and walks

The varied walks, rambling routes and steep hikes are without doubt one of the biggest pulls of Skye. Take in the otherworldly views around the Quiraing and the Old Man of Storr, challenge yourself with the Sgurr na Stri walk, hike among the heathers of Bla Bheinn, and the Tolkien-esque formations of Fairy Glen. Our guides can also assist you on the trails of the famous Cullin mountains. Going a bit off-piste can bring rich rewards, such as on the lesser-known path to Camsunary beach. Take a left by the bothy and head inland to the truly isolated Loch na Creitheach, where you can enjoy a natural wilderness with few people around.

Fishing and spotting

Skye’s rugged coastline is an angler’s dream for salmon. Our local guides know the best spots to cast your line, places where the majestic scenery enhances the thrill of the catch. Or settle into one of the many hides for a session of wildlife spotting and see magnificent golden and sea eagles swooping high, sea gannets diving headfirst to catch their prey and otters playing among the rocks. Take to the sea for the next level in wildlife spotting, watching seals, dolphins and whales break through the water for you to catch a glimpse afforded only to a few.

After some adventuring, the first thing you’ll want to do is swap stories and relive the best moments with friends and loved ones. You’ll find highland twists teamed with fine dining at Three Chimneys restaurant but seafood lovers shouldn’t miss Loch Bay restaurant. Booking is advised for both but if there’s no room at either, then the Stein Inn (one of the oldest pubs on the Isle) has great beer, food and an open fire. To cap it all off, try a whisky from the island’s Talisker distillery.

Revered and recommended by whisky experts, this single-malt has a flavour imprinted with Skye’s DNA. We can arrange a distillery tour, where you’ll find out for yourself how it’s made and take a bottle (or three) home so those memories don’t fade too fast.
